Acrylic Bluebonnet Landscape, Laying the Foundation

Work in process photos always look a bit funny...  But I had a great day Saturday, painting with my Austin artist friend, Gail.
You have to imagine a small abandoned farmhouse in the left part of the white shape with a tree trunk in the vertical bit.  1/3 of the sky will be covered with leaves and branches and the right end of the white shape will be distant trees.  The distant blue of the bluebonnet field will be toned down a little, as will the mid-range bluebonnets which are not yet complete.  The green in the front will be filled with more discernable bluebonnets.
Stay tuned to see it progress!

A couple from Austin purchased this acrylic painting of mine, and have commissioned a bluebonnet landscape to hang with it.  I thought it would be fun to take you through the commission process with me.  Though I paint more in watercolors, I like doing commissions in acrylic, because then the customer can look at the work-in-process photos and say something like, "Oh.  I was picturing something much lighter."  And I can add layers of paint until it suits.
When I paint with watercolors, usually the painting does not turn out exactly the way even I was picturing it!  But that is part of the fun of watercolors.  They are unpredictable and unforgiving.

Visiting Family in the Northland

Sometimes I plan and plan and plan a painting and work slowly on it, and other times I dash something off.  Mostly the planning works better, but once in a while a dash becomes a new favorite, like this bookmark sized piece that I did on an airplane yesterday....
Blogger is not working well today, so click on the word Facebook to see my little watercolor of a Wisconsin farmyard.
