Judy (the commissioner of this painting) gets three updates today because yesterday I had a long stretch of dedicated painting hours.
This is the magic photograph where suddenly things begin to look three-dimensional! That is because of the shadows on the porch floor. Other additions: a quinacridone gold layer on the... furniture to tone down the red. Some deeper shadows on the ceiling, more gold to smooth out the brown on the arches.
But we are far from done! One shadow is too dark. With a little luck and judicious application of a watery brush, I may be able to lighten it. After that, the masque comes off and the painting will look funny and unfinished again!
